Washington’s 5 TDs power Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO — Bobcat running back Corey Washington’s fivetouchdowns helped Bogue Chitto end its four-game losing streak lastFriday night. The Bobcats defeated the West Lincoln Bears 31-8 inRegion 4-1A play at Troy Smith Field.
Washington scored touchdowns on runs of 12, 14, 9, 20 and16-yards.
For his accomplishments, Washington has been named The DAILYLEADER’S Offensive Player of the Week. With the victory, theBobcats improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in division play.
Washington was all smiles when he was told he was OffensivePlayer of the Week.
“I love being named Player of the Week,” smiled Washington.”It’s a great feeling.”
Washington has scored nine touchdowns and rushed for 500 yardsfive games into the season. Against West Lincoln, he rushed 18times for 160 yards. The Bobcats led 13-0 at halftime.
Washington, a muscular 6-foot, 200-pound senior, runs a40-yard-dash in 4.6 time. In the weight room, Washington benchpresses 300 pounds, squats 450 and dead lifts 500.
“Corey plays hard all of the time,” said Bogue Chitto headfootball coach Gareth Sartin. “On defense, he has the knack to findthe football.”
Sartin said Washington had played end but was moved back frommiddle to outside linebacker this season. Washington said theBobcats must be more aggressive on defense.
“Corey’s a good kid,” added Sartin. “He is always smiling.”
Washington and his Bobcat teammates were happy to end thefour-game losing streak and get back in the win column.
“It’s great to get the win for the team,” said Washington.
Washington said all five touchdowns were called on the 22-Trap.”Erick Allen (left guard) pulls out and blocks for me.”
The other members of the Bobcat offensive line include lefttackles Robert Reeves and Bubba Bigner; Scotty Brown at center,Richard Williams at right guard and Kyle Moak at right tackle.
When asked about stopping Dexter Friday night, Washington talkeddefense.
“We must step our defense us,” said Washington.
Washington also plays baseball for the Bobcats. He alternatesbetween pitcher and first base.
