Margaret Hazel Mosley Turner, 88, ofRidgeland, died at her home on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012. Mrs. Turnerwas born to Rudie and Marvin Mosley on July 17, 1923 in Shubuta.She grew up in Petal where she graduated as valedictorian of herhigh school class. While in Petal, she met Luther Dwight Turnerwhom she married just before the outbreak of World War II. Sheworked as a secretary while her husband served in Italy and NorthAfrica for three years as an Army medic. After the war, the couplemoved to Oxford while Mrs. Turner’s husband completed medicalschool and they began a family.

    In 1952, the young family settled in Crystal Springs where Dr.Turner practiced family medicine for 35 years. During this time,Mrs. Turner served as a homemaker and was active in communityactivities. She served as President of the Junior Auxiliary and,for more than 25 years, as a Sunday School teacher for the FirstBaptist Church. She, Dr. Turner and Dr. Lamar and Julia Puryearalso built and operated the first nursing home in Copiah County,Pinecrest Nursing Home in Hazlehurst. To busy herself as an emptynester, Mrs. Turner also owned and operated a needlework store and,later, an antique shop in the old Wolfe Hotel that she and Dr.Turner had renovated during the 1960s.

    Despite these contributions to her community, her proudestaccomplishment was serving as the matriarch, mentor and muse of herfamily, which includes two daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law,son-in-law and eight spoiled and very devoted grandchildren.

    Mrs. Turner spent the last 10 years of her life as an independentresident of The Orchard in Ridgeland, where she made many wonderfulfriends among residents and staff. Their smiles, humor andhelpfulness were always appreciated and will not be forgotten byher family.

    Mrs. Turner is survived by her daughter, Elaine Turner Shockley, ofBrookhaven; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Ruth Turner, ofCrystal Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Deneise Turner and CrissLott, of Ridgeland; brother and sister-in-law, Charley and GwenMosley, of Moselle; and eight grandchildren, David and MatthewYoung, Kelly and Jennifer Turner, Terry Bracey, Melissa Floyd andCaroline and Turner Lott.

    Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L.D. Turner;infant son, Kelly Dwight Turner; parents, Marvin and Rudie Mosley;and brothers, Johnny and Jeff Mosley.

    Services were at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Burial will be atSunset Cemetery in Richton at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Stringer FamilyFuneral Services is in charge of arrangements.
