Lady Wolves split with LSU-Eunice

WESSON – Powered by Daniele Wilson’s fifth inning 2-run homer,the Co-Lin Lady Wolves broke a 3-all tie with LSU-Eunice and putaway the Lady Bengals 8-3 in the first game of softballdoubleheader Monday afternoon. Wilson also doubled as she finishedwith 2RBIs and 3 runs scored.

The loss halted the Bengals’ 17-game winning streak.

In the second game, LSU-Eunice collected a 4-1 win over Co-Lin. TheBengals are ranked No. 11 in a national poll.

The 14-7 Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, entertain East CentralWednesday, beginning at 4 p.m. The Bengals stand at 30-4 on theseason.

“We played two good games against a very good team,” said Kentabout the split.

Co-Lin 8, LSU-Eunice 3

With the game tied 3-all, Co-Lin catcher Lakin Lockhart led offwith a single and Wilson’s 2-RBI homer gave the Wolves a 5-3 lead.Haley Sones singled and Debra Hamor was hit by a pitch. Camerondelivered an RBI double to push the lead to 6-3. Katie Stewartdelivered an RBI groundout for a 7-3 lead.

In the sixth, Wilson singled and scored on an RBI single fromCameron to give Co-Lin an 8-3 lead and the win.

Collecting the victory was freshman hurler Bethany Pinkson (14-2)who went the distance, fanning 12 batters and walking 2. Absorbingthe loss was Leah Andrus.

“Brittany pitched another great game,” said Kent. “She kept us init until our offense came through.”

Cameron went 4-for-4 for the Wolves with 3 RBIs. Katie Stewart had2 singles. Holli Smith added a single.

LSU-Eunice got a double from Hayley McCall, Hayley Sanchez and SamBella.

Stacey Sutton posted the win. Terri Hodges (0-5) was the losingpitcher in four innings. Hodges allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits,struck out 2 and walked none. Hamor finished the game with 3 hitsallowed, no walks and no strikeouts.

Co-Lin’s only run came in the sixth when Wilson’s RBI double drovein Holli Smith.

“We outhit them 10-6 in game two, but didn’t get the clutch hitswhen we needed them,” said Kent.

Leading the Lady Wolves with a double and a single was Wilson.Lockhart singled twice. Hitting safely were Sones, Kayla Coleman,Stewart and Hodges.
