Frank Samuel “Smokey” Diamond
Services for Frank Samuel “Smokey” Diamond of Wesson are 2 p.m.,Friday, March 16, at Wesson Fire Department with burial in WessonCemetery.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at Stringer Funeral Home inHazlehurst.
Mr. Diamond, 58, died March 12, 2001, at V. A. Hospital inJackson. He was born on July 20, 1942, to Martha Diamond and FrankA. Diamond.
He had been a firefighter since the age of 14, both paid andvolunteer. He had been the chief of the Crystal Springs FireDepartment and assistant chief of the Wesson Volunteer FireDepartment for many years. He also worked as a jailer at the CopiahCounty Detention Center. After his retirement in 1999, he was theDeputy Civil Defense Director for Copiah County. He was a Navyveteran.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Survivors are his wife, Carolyn Smith Diamond; his stepson,Daniel Turner of Hazlehurst; his mother, Martha Diamond of Wesson;his brothers, Fred Diamond of Wesson and Michael Diamond ofPennsylvania; his sisters, Mary Sue Vardaman of Hermanville, AnnaE. Timberlake of Marengo, Ind., and Lydia Latham of Wesson; and twostepgrandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Smokey’s Crew, Copiah County Relay forLife, or the Firefighters Burn Center in Greenville.
Barbara Woofter Remington
Services for Barbara Woofter Remington of Wesson were 11 a.m.,Thursday, March 15, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Copiah Countywith burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home was incharge of arrangements.
Mrs. Remington, 60, died March 13, 2001, at her residence. Shewas born in Weston, W. Va., on Jan. 5, 1941, to Harold Woofter andEthel May Pratt Woofter.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Zion Hill BaptistChurch.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors are her husband, Edwin Remington of Wesson; herdaughters, Darla Mirth of Duncan, Okla., Claudeann Thames ofWesson, and Kelly Reynolds of Denver, Colo.; her brothers, JosephWoofter of Ohio and Billy Will of Virginia; her sisters, DarleneWoofter and Sue Peterson, both of Akron, Ohio; and fourgrandchildren.
Willie F. Shipp
Graveside services for Willie F. Shipp of Tupelo are 2 p.m.,Thursday, March 15, at Lee Memorial Park.
Mrs. Shipp, 76, died March 13, 2001, at her residence. She wasborn in Itawamba County on Sept. 21, 1924. She moved to Tupelo fromBrookhaven two years ago.
She was a self-employed beautician. She was a member of aMethodist church in Brookhaven.
Preceding her in death were her father, H. C. Farrar; and hersister, Mary Anderson.
Survivors are her mother, Josie Irene Farrar of Tupelo; herbrother, Paul Farrar of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen Wallace
Services for Kathleen Wallace of Natchez are 2 p.m., Friday,March 16, at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery.
Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome.
Miss Wallace, 78, died March 14, 2001, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on April 14, 1922, to Emmett Wallace and MaeJohnson Wallace.
She was disabled.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors are her brothers, Malcom Wallace of Baton Rouge andWinston Wallace of Bogue Chitto; her sisters, Lena Culpepper ofBogalusa, La., and Barbara King of Bogue Chitto; her stepbrothers,Bill Brown of Osyka and Bob Brown of Jackson; her stepsister, EvaNell Paterson of Jackson; her uncle, Clifton Wallace of BatonRouge; and her aunt and uncle, Elmer and Dot Johnson of BogueChitto.
William C. “Billy” Wilson
Services for William C. “Billy” Wilson of Monticello are 2 p.m.,Thursday, March 15, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inCarmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation today is until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Wilson, 84, died March 13, 2001, at Lawrence CountyHospital. He was born in Lawrence County on June 20, 1916, toWilliam Hardin Wilson and Flora Oliver Wilson.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a member ofCarmel Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Bobby CarolWilson; and his brothers, C. O. Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, and HardinWilson Jr.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille Berry Wilson of Monticello; hissons, William Jerry Wilson and Berry Douglas Wilson, both ofMonticello; his daughter, Judith Ann Yelverton of Monticello; hissister, Blanche Wilson Doyle of Kansas City; and ninegrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces andnephews.
