Martha Lou Ard Brister
Services for Martha Lou Ard Brister, of Jayess, will be held at2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Calvary United Pentecostal Churchin Jayess with burial in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. TheRev. Ray Bowling will officiate. Catchings Funeral Home of McCombis in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday at the church beginning at 4 p.m. and willcontinue all evening until the time of the service onWednesday.
Mrs. Brister, 68, died Oct. 28, 2007, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Oct. 16, 1939, to Charlie F. Ard andGussie Mae Furr Ard.
She was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church. Herfamily stated that she was a dedicated wife of 50 years, mother ofsix children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Akind and gentle woman whose smile lit up the world, she was anaccomplished homemaker, and made everyone feel welcome. She wastalented in the crafts of crochet and cooking, taking greatpleasure in both. She completed a collection of recipes from familyand friends called “The Cookbook Granny Made,” which alsodemonstrated her love of family and displayed her interest indocumenting her family’s heritage through food and photographs. Shelived a full life with her husband, Willie Paul, filled withadventure, laughter and love. She will be sadly missed by all whoknew her. We may take comfort in knowing the world is a betterplace because she lived.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her father-in-law andmother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Brister; her son, Rocky DewayneBrister; one grandson, Jeramie Brister; and one daughter-in-law,Kip Brister.
Survivors are her husband, Willie Paul Brister; her sons, DavidCheyenne Brister, of Jayess, and Willie Shane Brister and wife Pam,of Pricedale; her daughters, Paula Dare Brister Price, of McComb,Marty Rana Brister and fiance John Rimmer, of Rawlins, Wyo., andCarrie Judie Brister Williams and husband Boy, of Riverton, Wyo.;her brothers, Isaiah Ard and wife Margaret, and Pat Ard and wifeBonnie, all of Ruth; her sisters, Janet McMurtray and husbandFrank, of Gaithersburg, Md., Carolyn McGinnis and husband Wayne, ofWesson, and Jimmie Sue Ard, of Poplarville; her grandchildren, CodyBrister, Nicole Brister Lumpkins and husband Billy, Chance Brister,Amanda Brister, Billy Brister, Sam Brister, Corey Price and TyWestbrook; her great-grandchildren, Gabby Brister, Hunter Westbrookand Harley Lumpkins; her sisters-in-law, Joyce Edinfield, ofJayess, Golda Hollaway and husband Lavon, of Tylertown, and BonnieCullom and husband Curtis, of Pearl; and a host of nephews, niecesand other relatives.
Pallbearers are John Ard, Jason Ard, Jim Ard, Greg Cullom,Milton Hollaway and Robert Cullom.
Honorary pallbearers are Shannon Lambert, Perry McMurtrayCullom, Corey Price and Ty Westbrook.
