Caston’s 35 powers BHS

RAYMOND – Brandon Caston scored a career-high 35 points and theBrookhaven Panthers roared to a 79-74 Tuesday night win over theRaymond Rangers. Senior guard Fred Mackabee chipped in 22 points asthe Panthers held off Raymond.

The Panthers (13-3, 2-0) led Raymond 41-32 at halftime andcarried a 58-43 lead into the finale frame.

Caston, a 5-9 junior, hit six treys in his career night. Hescored 13 points in the final frame, netting 11 free throws.

“Brandon was in the groove,” said Brookhaven coach Dan Presley.”We wanted to keep the ball in his hands in the fourth quarter andcontrol the clock.”

In the JV boys game, Brookhaven posted a 70-30 triumph, led byJuaquin Smith with 16 points and Rodney Daniels with 12. MicahTanner added 10 points for the Panthers (5-1).

Brookhaven resumes play Friday night at Lawrence County.
