Services for Alfred Smith of Brookhaven are 11 a.m., Tuesday,Oct. 23, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burial in ConcordBaptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Harrigill Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith, 79, died Oct. 21, 2001, at University Medical Centerin Jackson. He was born in Jefferson County on June 15, 1922, toLewis Smith and Lillie Varnado Smith.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member ofSouthway Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son-in-law, JohnnyBuie; and his grandson, John Buie.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret S. Smith of Brookhaven; his sonand daughter-in-law, Charles A. “Chuck” and Cindy Smith ofBrookhaven; his daughters and son-in-law, Peggy Buie of McCallCreek and Pam and Pat Cantrell of Bryan, Texas; his brother, SamSmith of Jackson; his sister, Carra Hughy of Texarkana, Texas; andfour grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and fourgreat-grandchildren.
