Services for Robert Lamar Hedgepeth of Monticello are 2 p.m.,Tuesday, Nov. 20, at New Zion Baptist Church. The officiatingministers will be the Rev. Jon Daniels, the Rev. Malcolm Massey,and the Rev. Blain McLain.

Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hedgepeth, 73, died Nov. 18, 2001, of heart failure atBaptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born and reared in theDivide community of Lawrence County. He was the son of the Rev. andMrs. George Hedgepeth.

He was retired from Georgia-Pacific with 25 years service. Hewas a charter member of the G-P retiree club and served asvice-president. Prior to joining the paper mill, he worked forGM&O Railroad for over nine years. He also worked in thegarment manufacturing industry for Stahl Urban/Kellwood and EdwardHyman. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, where he hadserved as chairman of deacons, was a Sunday school teacher,Discipleship Training director, and choir director.

Mr. Hedgepeth sang with the Deacons’ Quartet, a gospel group,for 18 years. He was an active member and lay speaker for GideonsInternational.

Preceding him in death were his former wife, Lula; his daughter,Glenda Hedgepeth; and his brother, Colon Hedgepeth.

Survivors are his wife, Marilyn McLain Hedgepeth of Monticello;his children, Ronnie Hedgepeth and Jackie Williamson, both ofMonticello, and Danny Hedgepeth of Brookhaven; his stepchildren,Paul McLain and Mary Frances Boyd, both of Monticello, Doug McLainof Tulsa, Okla., and Daniel McLain of Miami, Fla.; his stepparents,Howard and Mary Walker of Forkville; his stepsister, MargaretStormo of Atlanta, Ga.; his brothers, Warren Hedgepeth of Union andWillard Hedgepeth of Picayune; his sisters, Jessie Faye McCarty ofMonticello, and Edna Barrett and Christine Polk of Picayune; andsix grandchildren and one stepgrandchild.

Active pallbearers are the deacons of New Zion Baptist Church.Honorary pallbearers are his Sunday school class and localGideons.
