Brookhaven Academy roars past Centreville

CENTREVILLE – Forward Ancy Myers pumped in 17 points and theBrookhaven Academy Lady Cougars cruised to a 51-38 Friday nightvictory over the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers.
In the boys game, Craig Smith fired in 15 points, made fivesteals and had five assists in powering Brookhaven to a 77-47victory over Centreville.
Brookhaven Academy hosts Oak Forest Tuesday for a District 4-AAtest. Action begins at 4 p.m., with junior high action.
The Lady Cougars (19-1, 3-0) were led on the backboards by AnnaGatlin with 5 rebounds. Providing 3 assists were Leah Davis, KelliByrd and Abby Williams. Byrd collected 5 steals.
“I’ve been very pleased with the reduction of our turnovers”said Brookhaven Academy coach Barry Gray. “Our half-court defenseis really looking good, too.”
Centreville got 12 points from Gene’ Jackson and 11 from GinnyWatts. The Lady Tigers trailed 26-9 at halftime.
The Cougars (14-2, 3-0) led 21-8 after the first quarter and43-21 at the half.
“We played real well,” said Brookhaven Academy boys coach DaleWatts. “We put in some new things we have been working on. We ranour full-court press.”
Contributing to the Cougars win with 14 points, eight reboundsand two blocked shots was Alex Davis. Paul Coker collected sixrebounds, four steals and blocked two shots.
Centreville got 11 points apiece from Matthew Perkins and JohnVincent.
Junior High Results
Brookhaven whipped Centreville 62-30 in the junior high girlsgame, led by Emily Langley with 15 points. Kaci Williams added 12points and Jessica Diamond 10 for the 13-1 Lady Cougars.
Centreville got 14 points from Ash Brashier.
The Brookhaven junior high boys crushed Centreville 45-25.Leading Brookhaven with eight points was Dane Brister.
Brandon Patin netted 12 points for Centreville.
