Bike mishap kills one, injures one

A late Sunday afternoon motorcycle outing resulted in the deathof a Liberty man and has left a Bogue Chitto woman in seriouscondition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Reginald McGhee, 21, of Peoria Rd., Liberty, was travelingnorthbound on Highway 51, south of Bogue Chitto, on a 2005 Yamahamotorcycle when he attempted to pass a 2001 GMC truck that waspulling a flatbed trailer hauling a tractor, said Staff Sgt. RodCrawford, public affairs officer of the Mississippi Highway PatrolTroop M..
Johnnie E. Robinson, 62, of Bogue Chitto, was attempting to makea left turn into a private driveway when the motorcycle struck thetrailer. The accident happened around 5:06 p.m., Crawford said.
McGhee was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lincoln CountyCoroner Clay McMorris.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Poccara May, 22, of Lee Dr.,Bogue Chitto, was taken by King’s Daughter Medical Center AmbulanceService to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb,where she was later airlifted to the University of MississippiMedical Center in Jackson in critical condition, said Crawford.According to Thyrie Bland, spokesman for UMC, May was listed inserious condition at the hospital this morning.
Crawford said both McGhee and May were wearing helmets when theaccident occurred.
“Speed is a determining factor in the accident,” said Crawford.The reconstruction division will investigate the accident todetermine speed, he said.
Robinson was wearing his seat belt and was uninjured, saidCrawford.
