Fern Baxter King, age 89, went home to be with her Lord andSavior on Jan. 2, 2011. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 4,2010, at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, from 9 until 11 a.m.Immediately following visitation, funeral services were held at thefuneral home.

Fern Baxter was born on Feb. 6, 1921, in Mason, Tenn., the daughterof Don and Carrie Baxter. She attended Whitworth College inBrookhaven in 1939. She married Eugene R. King in 1940 and as adevoted wife, loved and supported him in his business and civicinterests. She was an active member of First United MethodistChurch for many years, participating in the Methodist Young Adultgroup and the Ed Livingston Sunday School Class. She was one of thefounders of the Methodist Young Adult Fellowship and was one of thefirst to serve in the Bertha Kennett Memorial Library. She was agreat supporter of North Mississippi Emmaus and Methodist ForeignMissions. In 1993, she was named Woman of the Year of WinstonCounty. She will be most remembered as a beloved mother, acherished grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life toher family. Fern had an outgoing personality. She will be greatlymissed by the many people whose lives she touched.

Fern Baxter King is survived by her daughters, Peggy King Yarbroughand husband Daniel “Moe” of Louisville, and Linda King Dunnaway andhusband, Danny of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Scott Ray and wifeDawn, Amanda M. Clark and husband Wesley, and Andrew Dunnaway andwife Aimee Primeaux; her great-grandchildren, Abby and Laney Ray,Michael and Emily Majors, and Nola and Baxter Dunnaway. She wasknown as “Mimi” to Danny, Angela, Elizabeth Ann and DanielYarbrough, Steven, Paige, Mary Cannon, Ellie, and James Yarbrough,and Rob, Amy and R.J. Landry also.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years,Eugene R. King; her grandson, David E. Dunnaway; and two brothers,Durwood and Russell Baxter.
