Jasper Hall and his Brookhaven teammates are off to a strongstart this season. The Panthers remained unbeaten in Division 6-4Aby defeating the South Pike Eagles 62-47 Friday night in SinclairGymnasium as Hall scored 17 points and teammate Jermaine Culver16.

Brookhaven (7-3, 2-0) resumes play Monday night, hosting thepowerhouse Clinton Arrows for a tripleheader, starting with a JVboys game at 5 p.m. The varsity girls game tips off at 6, followedby the varsity boys at 7:30.

“Jasper is having a great season,” said BHS boys coach RonaldHines. “He got another double-double tonight.”

Hall had 10 points at halftime and the Panthers led 32-21. Inthe second quarter, Hall exploded with a backboard-shaking dunk,knifing between 2 South Pike defenders. Hall’s third-quarter dunkput the Panthers up by 10 points, 41-31.

Led by forward Kevin McCoy, the Eagles (2-5, 0-2) made a briefrun at Brookhaven in the final frame. They reduced their deficit to4 points, 45-41, on a layup by Reginald Magee.

The Panthers replied. Hall cashed in a short jumper and RodneyDaniels followed with a dunk off a steal, putting the Panthers upby 8 points, 49-41, with 6:42 left in the game.

The Eagles, under the direction of first-year head coach JoeTaylor, never recovered. McCoy finished with 18 points and JeremyNathaniel added 13.

“We played these guys twice this week and that makes it tough,”said Hines. He was referring to Tuesday night’s 68-63 win at SouthPike.

“We are playing better on defense right now,” said Hines. “Weare blocking out better on rebounds. We still are making too manyturnovers.”

In the JV boys game, South Pike beat Brookhaven42-36, led by Phillip Brown’s 14 points. The Panthers got 13 pointsfrom Wade Stewart.
