Wolves win doubleheader from Lions

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves swept a baseball doubleheader fromthe East Mississippi Lions Thursday afternoon at SullivanField.

Co-Lin (5-4) won the opener 5-4 in 11 innings and 12-2 in thesix-inning finale. East Mississippi falls to 3-8 with thelosses.

The Wolves entertain Kishwaukee (Ill.) Monday for a doubleheaderbeginning at 4 p.m. They will also play a 9-inning contest Tuesdaystarting at 1.

Co-Lin 5, East Mississippi 4

A single from Co-Lin’s Casey Ginn in the 11th inning drove incourtesy runner Jacob Leggett for the game-winning run. The Wolvestired the game at 4-all with two runs in the bottom of the seventhinning.

“We adjusted well despite the long innings,” said Co-Lin headbaseball coach Keith Case. “Thankfully, we didn’t make too manymistakes down the stretch.”

Ryan Belanger (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief ofstarters Cass Brister and first reliever Boycee Varnes. Belangerfinished with five strikeouts and one hit allowed in the final 41/2 innings.

John Russell (0-1) absorbed the loss in the final five inningswith three strikeouts and one walk. Also seeing action for thefirst six innings was Robert Tucko.

Ginn also doubled for the Wolves. Hitting safely were DiegoNucete, Patrick Williams and Jody Britt.

David Nanney paced East Mississippi with a two-run home run anda single. Dusty Snider also homered.

Co-Lin 12, East Mississippi 2

In the finale, Tyler Perrett (2-0) posted the win in the finaltwo innings. Starter Colby Beach fanned three batters and walkedone as the starter. Will Matleton (2-1) absorbed the loss with twostrikeouts and three walks.

“We got the hits when we needed them,” said Case. “Offensively,we put the ball in play.”

At the plate, Co-Lin was led by Keeyon Sanders with a double-rundouble and two singles. Britt tripled and singled. Patrick Williamsdrilled a double and a single. Ginn doubled.

Joey Bratton and Travan Barney singled for the Lions.
