Bears, Lady Bulldogs keep perfect records unblemished

The unbeaten Franklin County Lady Bulldogs (12-0) outscored thehost West Lincoln Lady Bears 38-13 in the second half and cruisedto a 71-35 win Tuesday night at Jack Case Gymnasium.

In boys’ action, the undefeated West Lincoln Bears (15-0) shook offthe holiday rust after the first quarter to defeat the FranklinCounty Bulldogs 73-59.

The Bears and Lady Bears resume action Friday hosting NatchezCathedral for a Region 7-1A matchup. Game time is set to begin withthe girls’ game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Franklin County returns home to host the Hazlehurst Indians tobegin their Region 7-3A action.

Franklin Co. 71, W. Lincoln 35

Karli Herrington knocked down a game-high 17 points to lead theLady Bears (8-7).

“We played very decent in the first half,” said West Lincoln coachLane Young. “The girls competed and played hard. The second half isa different story. We made too many turnovers and Franklin Countytook advantage of it.”

The Lady Bulldogs had two players with 10 points apiece who wereAllison Hauer and Vintrice Briggs.

“We played very well defensively,” said Franklin County coachCharles Moore. “West Lincoln does a good job running theiroffensive schemes and that slowed down our rhythm. We will have alot of studying to do to fix our mistakes and get better.” Moore’sgirls lead 33-22 at halftime.

West Lincoln 73, Franklin Co. 59

The West Lincoln Bears had four players to score in double figures.Senior guard Jay Case pumped in 19 points. Sophomore Jared Casechipped in with 17 points. Senior center Lucas Burris provided adouble-double on the night with 13 points and 13 rebounds. De Pricecontributed 10 points.

“We played very well in the first three quarters,” said Young. “Wedid not play very well in the fourth quarter. Franklin County did avery god job battling back. We must do a better job on shooting ourfree throws.”

Senior guard Milton Griffin was the leader for the Bulldogs (6-3)with 15 points. Derek Bethley and Dee Bowie contributed 10 pointsapiece.

“Our effort was a lot better in the second half,” said FranklinCounty boys coach Chris Jordan. “West Lincoln has a very good teamand they run their offense really well. Our main factor was that wefell in early foul trouble.” Jordan’s Bulldogs were down 39-25 athalftime.

In JV boys’ action, the Bears managed to hold off Franklin Countyfor a 29-24 victory. Darrius Clark was the top scorer for WestLincoln with 9 points. Sam Bivens added 8 points. The Bulldogs wasled by Anfernee Wright with 8 points.
