Enterprise girls best Lady Panthers 40-32

The Enterprise Lady Jackets took advantage of numerousBrookhaven turnovers to sting the visiting Lady Panthers 40-32 lastnight in a matchup of Lincoln County rivals.
Brookhaven defeated Enterprise 43-14 in the preliminary juniorvarsity girls game.
Brookhaven plays host to Franklin County on Saturday night. TheJV boys game begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity girls game at6 with the varsity boys closing out the evening activities at7:30.
Enterprise’s games against Loyd Star on Nov. 10 have canceleddue to the Hornets’ participation in the football playoffs. Thatgame will be made up a later date. The Lady Jackets and theJackets’ next game will be on Nov. 17 when they host Jackson St.Joe.
The Lady Jackets (1-0) took advantage of playing ontheir home floor to pull out the win. Lacey Palomarez and AndreaHawthorne nailed 3-point baskets and Enterprise led 14-8 at the endof the first quarter.
Both teams missed several easy baskets throughout thegame. Defense played an important part in this low scoringaffair.
Brookhaven (0-2) only mustered 5 points in the secondperiod. A trey by Julianna Wallace and a pair of free throws byNikki Blakely were the only scoring.
Enterprise, coached by Billy Vaughn, held a 25-13 leadat halftime. Several missed free throw opportunities could haveeasily increased the cushion.
Vaughn saw his ballclub take their largest lead of thegame, 30-16, on a trey by Joyce Allen. The Lady Jackets held a30-18 lead heading into the final period.
“We played well in spurts,” said Vaughn after the game.”There was some confusion out there but we expectedthat.”
The Brookhaven offense came to life in the quarter. TheLady Panthers outscored Enterprise 14-10, led by Blakely’s 9 pointsand Wallace’s 4 points. Turnovers in the final minutes cost CoachRonald Gill’s team in the end , but the Lady Panthers never gaveup.
“Some changes are going to have to be made,”said Gillfollowing the game. “We cannot continue to shoot the ball like weare and expect to win games.”
Brookhaven got 7 rebounds and 2 steals from ShamekaGilmore. Aneidra Stanton had 5 steals and 2 assists. The LadyPanthers committed 22 turnovers.
Palomarez paced the Lady Jackets with 15 points, fiverebounds and a blocked shot. Monica Leggett led off the backboardswith 7 rebounds and blocked a shot. Candice Spraggins pulled down 6rebounds. Joyce Allen collected 4 steals and made 4 assists. Alsoblocking one shot was Spraggins.
In the JV game, Tiffany Edwards of Brookhaven led allscorers with 12 points. Ashley Tate paced Enterprise with 4points.
