Jones Co. Bobcats put broom on Co-Lin

WESSON – Jones County Junior College showcased its strength onthe mound and at the plate Saturday in Sullivan Stadium, sweeping aSouth Division twinbill from the slumping Co-Lin Wolves. TheBobcats won the opener 4-2 in a pitcher’s duel and dominated thefinale 19-8 as centerfielder Tyler Gardner slugged a grand slam anda 3-run homer.

Jones County raised its record to 30-8 overall and 12-6 in theSouth Division. Co-Lin (14-26, 2-14) saw its losing streak extendedto 15 games.

Co-Lin travels to Gulf Coast at Perkinston Wednesday for a 4 p.m.South Division doubleheader. The Wolves host Hinds Saturday at 1p.m.

Jones 4, Co-Lin 2

Corey Williams handcuffed Co-Lin with a 4-hitter and remainedunbeaten in eight games as the Bobcats won the opener. He struckout four batters and walked none. Reliever Andrew Pierce fanned twobatters in the seventh.

“Williams has a lot of control,” said Coach Case. “He threw threepitches on either side of the plate. He kept us off balance bychanging speeds.”

Jeff DeBlieux (11 K, 3 BB) allowed six hits and two earned runs ina losing cause.

Centerfielder Jesse Shows hit a 2-run double for Co-Lin in thefifth inning. Third baseman Bud Britt doubled and singled.

Jones Co. 19, Co-Lin 8

Gardner went 4-for-5, including a grand slam homer in the firstinning. He hit a 3-run homer in the seventh and finished with eightRBIs.

“Our pitchers gave up a ton of hits and made some walks, too,” saidCase, looking at the linescore. He used seven pitchers and twocatchers in the finale.

. Britt homered for the Wolves. Cable McMinn doubled. Kendall Loganand Edmund Cheatham had two hits apiece.

Colton Ales (4-2) picked up the win, aided by relief help fromthree pitchers.
