Brook divides with Hattiesburg Tigers

HATTIESBURG – Brookhaven and Hattiesburg split a varsitybasketball doubleheader Tuesday night in the Hattiesburg High Gym.The Lady Panthers’ shooting woes continued, as the Hattiesburg LadyTigers pulled out a 53-36 win over Brookhaven. Despite early foultrouble, the Brookhaven Panthers were able to pick up a 75-67overtime win against the Hattiesburg Tigers.
Brookhaven hosts North Pike for three games Friday night inSinclair Gym. The JV boys game tips off at 5 p.m., followed by thevarsity girls game at 6, and the varsity boys around 7:30.
Hattiesburg 53, Brookhaven 36
The Lady Tigers used a 23-11 second period to take a 33-19 leadinto the halftime lockerroom after leading 10-8 entering the secondperiod.
“We must learn to shoot the ball better than we have lately,”said Ole Brook girls head coach Freda Craft. “We have to play acomplete game for 32 minutes.”
Kearra Collins led Brookhaven with 12 points and Tiakara Kellytossed in 11 points.
For Lady Tiger head coach Caronica Debuse, guard Gwyn Lampton (7treys) led all scorers with 23 points.
Brookhaven 75, Hattiesburg 67
“We were in early foul trouble for most of the game,” saidBrookhaven head coach Preston Wilson. “Hattiesburg was very tall.We did not have a good second or fourth period.”
The Panthers (6-1) led 21-13 after the opening period and 28-27at the halftime break. Juniors Keith Johnson and Rajavion Stewartpaced four Brookhaven players in double-figures with 15 pointsapiece. Leo Garrett and Ross Hill followed with 10 points each.
The Panthers outscored the Tigers 12-4 in overtime. They weretied 63-all at the end of regulation.
Hattiesburg, coached by Yama Jones, got 14 points from GregWalker.
