Hinds AHS overpowers Wesson Cobras

WESSON — The Hinds AHS boys and girls teams swept a Division6-2A basketball doubleheader Tuesday night from the WessonCobras.
JaCorey Knight pumped in a game-high 18 points to lead Hinds AHSto a 66-57 win over Wesson.
In girls action, Jerrica Thomas fired 23 points to spark theLady Bulldogs in a 50-32 victory over the Lady Cobras.
Wesson travels to St. Andrew’s Friday night for more divisionaction.

“We dug ourselves a tough hole to get out of,”said Wesson boys coach Ron Kessler after the game.
The Cobras (10-16, 3-8) trailed the Bulldogs (23-5, 10-1) by ascore of 15-10 in the first quarter. At halftime, Hinds AHS ledWesson 32-19.
“We climbed out of it in the second half,” added Kessler. “Weplayed much better offense in the second half. We challengedourselves. We cut it to seven points late in the fourthquarter.”
The Cobras got double-double from Brandt Hood with 18 points and10 rebounds, plus 3 steals and 3 assists. Adrian King netted 17points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Finishing with 12 points wasMason Warren.
Adding support to the Bulldogs’ win with 11 points each wereTimothy Myles and Kendrick Washington.
Hinds AHS 50, Wesson 32
In girls play, the Lady Cobras (10-17, 5-6) struggled in thefirst quarter, trailing the Lady Bulldogs 12-2. At halftime, HindsAHS (25-1, 11-0) commanded a 23-12 lead. Going into the finalframe, the Lady Bulldogs were up 44-14.
Wesson had no players in double figures. Perry K. Furr led with7 points. Sam Ellison and Bethany Dykes led off the backboards with7 rebounds apiece.
Following Thomas with 10 points was Mercedes Williams for HindsAHS.
Junior Varsity Results
The Hinds AHS girls clipped Wesson 29-23. Jerrica Noel and TerriRichards paced the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points apiece.
Leading the Lady Cobras with 7 points was Davis. Case followedwith 5 points and Leah Greer had 5.
