MONTICELLO – The Prentiss boys and Mendenhall girls wentundefeated in the Lawrence County Round-Robin Tournament and tookhome the championship trophies Saturday night. Mendenhall beat theLawrence County girls 52-42 last night and the Mendenhall boysprevailed 62-60 in overtime.

In the two early games Saturday, Prentiss beat Franklin County,winning the girls game 54-43 and the boys contest 51-50.

Prentiss 54, Franklin Co. 43

Leading Franklin County’s girls was junior Deidra Gantwith 28 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. The teams battled to a20-20 halftime deadlock and Gant had 18 of Franklin County’spoints.

Prentiss was led by Felecia Oatis with 15 points and 6steals.

Mendenhall 52, Lawrence Co. 42

Mendenhall led 14-13 at the break in a low-scoring firsthalf of girls action.

Leading Lawrence County was Marquita Cowart with 14points and 2 steals. Brittany Peyton had 11 points and 6rebounds.

Mendenhall’s victory was led by junior center LaurenWilliams who had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.Delisha Camper chipped in 11 rebounds.

Prentiss 51, Franklin Co. 50

Franklin County’s boys led Prentiss 29-26 at halftimeand had visions of an upset. The Meadville-based Bulldogs were ledby junior guard Bobby Henderson with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3steals and 2 assists. Jimmy Green added 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2steals.

Prentiss (18-2) was powered by 6-9 sophomore center AlJefferson with 25 points, 20 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 2steals. Kendrick Brown added 8 points.

Franklin County missed several shots in the fadingseconds which could have won the game.

Mendenhall 62, Lawrence Co. 60

The Tigers (12-8) prevailed in overtime as Joey Jacksonpumped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. B.J. Womack added 13points. Womack’s 2 free throws with 10 seconds left to playprovided the margin of victory in overtime.

Mendenhall led the Cougars 26-23 at halftime. Alast-second layup by Lawrence County’s Jason Snell sent the gameinto the 4-minute overtime.

Lawrence County guard Vincent Newsom paced the Cougarswith 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Erik Stringer added 10points.
