Darwin Marion Alexander

Services for Darwin Marion Alexander of Jayess are 2:30 p.m.,Friday, Oct. 10, at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ruth withburial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-8 p.m. at CatchingsFuneral Home in McComb, and at 1 p.m. on Friday at Union PrimitiveBaptist Church until the time of the service.

Mr. Alexander, 72, died Oct. 7. 2003, at the MississippiVeteran’s Home in Collins. He was born in Lawrence County on Nov.8, 1930, to Wood Alexander and Carrie Undine Dunaway Alexander.

He was a retired maintenance leadman for Croft Metals with 22years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflictand was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was a member of UnionPrimitive Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother and afour-year-old brother, Henry Alexander.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Christine Matthews Alexanderof Jayess; his daughters, Sherry Gieger of Mount Rose, PatriciaBrumfield of Magnolia, and Donna Beck of Terry; his son, DannyAlexander of Jayess; his sisters, Willie Mae Brister of McComb andEunice Greer of Jayess; his brothers, Dewell Alexander and DenverAlexander, both of Jayess; 14 grandchildren and fourgreat-grandchildren.

Minnie Fairman Buchanan

Services for Minnie Fairman Buchanan of Roseland, La., are 11a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church inBrookhaven with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday, Oct. 10, from 5-9 p.m. at RichardsonFuneral Home in Amite, La.

Mrs. Buchanan, 91, died Oct. 5, 2003, at Haven Hall HealthcareCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on Dec. 16, 1911, to Ben andMollie Fairman.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, EnosBuchanan; her daughter, Carolyn L. Buchanan; her five sisters and12 brothers.

Survivors are her sister, Eula Wyet of Petersburg, Va., hergrandson, Javier Burks of Roseland, La., and a host of nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.

William A. “Bill” Ray

Services for William A. “Bill” Ray of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.,Friday, Oct. 10, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello withburial in Monticello United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Revs.Ron Barham and John Daniels will officiate.

Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Ray, 87, died Oct. 8, 2003, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter in Brookhaven. A native of Webster County, he was born Oct.8, 1916, at Tomnolen.

He was retired from the Chevron Oil Company where he worked formore than 30 years. He worked for the company at Cranfield, andthen offshore in the Gulf of Mexico out of Venice, La. He had manytalents, including carpentry, a craft he learned from his fatherand later practiced while a member of the Civilian ConservationCorps. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. He was extremelydevoted to his family and loved doing things for others.

He married his wife, the former Inez Hall, a Coffeeville native,on May 15, 1936. After raising their three daughters at Cranfield,they moved to Monticello in the late 1960s and lived there until2000 when they moved to Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William B. and MargaretE. Ray, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors are his wife, Inez Hall Ray of Brookhaven; hisdaughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Roger Boyd of Brookhaven, Judyand Steve Clyburn of Monticello, and Sue and Mike Windham ofBrookhaven; his six grandchildren, Scott Boyd of Brandon and Macon,Eric Boyd of Brookhaven, Catherine Byrd of Petal, Todd Windham andBen Windham, both of Oxford and Justin Windham of Brookhaven; andfive great-grandchildren.
