A Wesson woman has been arrested on several charges stemmingfrom her employment at Lincoln Residential Center inBrookhaven.

Emily Mara Martin, 27, of 1006 Wolf Hollow Drive, Wesson, turnedherself in to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesdayafter receiving an indictment for four counts of felonyexploitation of a vulnerable adult, four counts of attempted felonyexploitation of a vulnerable adult, one count of misdemeanorexploitation of a vulnerable adult, and two counts of felonyembezzlement. Jail officials said she bonded out the same day.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood’s office said theindictments were handed down by a Lincoln County Grand Jury. TheAttorney General’s office said during the course of about fivemonths, Martin allegedly took more than $10,000 and allegedlyattempted to take an additional $6,400 from the Lincoln ResidentialCenter, as well as from residents of the facility.

“Our vulnerable adult laws were designed to protect thosecitizens who cannot protect themselves,” said Hood. “When someonesteals from the elderly or the incapacitated, they can expect thefull weight of the law to be thrown at them.”

Police Chief Pap Henderson said while his department is aware ofthe investigation, when there is a probe into a nursing homesituation that the Attorney General’s office handles it.

A spokesperson for Lincoln Residential said they have no commentat this time.
