The McComb Tigers claimed the Brookhaven Invitational Tournamentwith a convincing 89-50 Saturday night victory over the previouslyunbeaten Wilkinson County Wildcats. The victory avenged an earlierloss to the Wildcats.

In other boys tournament action, Hinds AHS defeated NorthwestRankin 61-54. Brookhaven slid past West Lincoln 47-46 and Tylertownescaped South Pike 68-65.

Brookhaven travels to Brandon Monday for 3 games that begin at 5p.m.

McComb 89, Wilkinson County 50

The Tigers (8-1), ranked eighth in the state, led from theopening tip. McComb continues to use a combination of tenaciouspressure defense and a torrid shooting offense. Head Coach HiltonHarrell saw his team lead 18-8 after one period and 34-39 at theintermission.

The Wildcats (6-1) were outscored 24-12 in the third frame;trailing 58-41 entering the fourth stanza.

The Tigers would pour it on heavily in the fourth quarter with a30-9 run to end the game.

McComb was led by Otis Smith with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3assists. Roteddrick Cotton had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.Derrick Harris added 10 points. DeFreddrick White dished out 8assists. The Tigers committed 9 turnovers.

Wilkinson County, coached by Arthur Clark, got 13 points fromLawrence Cage. Mitchell Thompson and Corey Anthony each scored 12points.

Hinds AHS 61, NW Rankin 54

The Bulldogs (6-1) were led by Timothy Myles, Keeslee Stewartand Kendrick Washington with 11 points apiece. Keith Williamsprovided 10 points.

The Cougars (4-3) got a game-high 13 points from Jeremy Cook and11 from Jerrell Palmer.

Brookhaven 47, West Lincoln 46

Ole Brook (3-3) broke a 2-game losing streak with the narrow winover Lincoln County rival West Lincoln. The Panthers got a layupfrom Simmie Yarborough with less than 6 seconds left in the fourthquarter.

West Lincoln (2-4) got off a shot from Jamey Byrd, as timeexpired; but the attempt went long and Brookhaven escaped with thewin.

Panther head coach Ronald Hines received 2 technical fouls inthe latter stages of the opening period; thus being ejected fromthe game. Assistant coach Cliff Furr filled in for Hines followingthe ejection.

Yarborough paced Brookhaven with 12 points. Charles Rancifer had9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Terrance Perkins had 3 stealsand 2 assists.

For the Bears, Bradleigh Rice led all scorers with 19 points and7 rebounds. Aaron Shaw pumped in 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 stealsand 4 assists.

Tylertown 68, South Pike 65

The Eagles (1-3) were led by Philip Brown with a game-high 25points. Quentin Brown followed with 15 for head coach JoeTaylor.

The Chiefs (2-4) had 4 players in double-figures; led by QuincyLampton with 17 points. Scoring 13 points apiece were DevellirTripp and Terraz Posey. Head Coach Lavern Lee also got 10 pointsfrom J.D. Magee.
