BA Cougars sack Clinton

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars defeated Clinton’s Arrows 8-2 Monday night in Harold Williams Ballpark. It was considered the first-ever meeting between BA and a public school opponent. A large crowd witnessed the game.
On the mound, sophomore right-hander Zach Dickerson pitched the victory. He struck out 5 batters and walked 2, allowing 4 hits with his submarine delivery,
Senior Gage Posey (3K, 0BB) pitched 2 innings of relief and held the Arrows hitless.
Tyler Trussell (2K, 1BB) started on the mound for Clinton, allowing 7 hits and 5 runs. He was replaced in the second inning by Miles Thomas (6K, 1BB), who gave up 2 hits and 3 runs. Adam Jackson (2K, 1BB) pitched 1 inning of no hit relief.
The Cougar collected 9 hits. Catcher Landon Nettles and third baseman Tanner Parvin singled twice for BA as they took a 4-0, first-inning lead. Nettles had 2 RBI.
Collecting an RBI double was Posey. Shortstop Matthew Evans hit a solo home run in the second inning.
Notching a single for the Cougars were Steven Williams, Alex Smith and Dickerson.
“I am proud of our guys for not backing down,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “We came out swinging, got an early lead and kept it.”
Edwards was an assistant coach at Clinton before taking the BA job 4 years ago.
The Class 6A Arrows were limited to 4 hits. Freshman Trace Tyre singled and homered. Trip Williamson and Trey Wilkerson singled.
The Cougars (15-10, 6-0) ended their regular season on a winning note. They await the winner of the MAIS Class AA Centreville-Simpson series and will play next week, probably Tuesday. It will be a best-of-three series.
