BOGUE CHITTO — The Enterprise Yellow Jackets raised their levelof confidence Friday night in the Bogue Chitto Football Jamboree.The Jackets defeated West Lincoln 15-6 and Bogue Chitto 20-0 onrain-soaked Troy Smith Field.

West Lincoln won the opening half, beating the host Bobcats 6-0.The teams begin playing for keeps this week, starting the 2004campaign. West Lincoln kicks off its season Thursday night, hostingthe Loyd Star Hornets. Game time is 7 p.m.

Bogue Chitto entertains McAdams Friday night while Enterprisehosts Wesson in regular-season openers.

New Enterprise head coach Mac Bezet was pleased with his team’seffort in the jamboree. The Jackets displayed plenty of potentialon offense, led by tailback Terrell May’s 213 rushing yards and 3touchdowns.

“We have a long way to go,” said Bezet. “These kids have tolearn that they can win. I think all three teams hustledtonight.”

May’s breakaway speed was evident against both opponents. He had10 carries for 96 yards and 2 TDs against West Lincoln, scoring onruns of 26 and 15 yards.

Against Bogue Chitto, May gained 117 yards on 8 carries. Hescored on runs of 18 and 68 yards.

“That May kid is really fast,” said West Lincoln head coachBrooks Burns. “He’s a good athlete.”

Bogue Chitto coach Gareth Sartin agreed. “Terrell May is a goodrunning back. His offensive line looked good, too.”

West Lincoln 6, Bogue Chitto 0

West Lincoln fullback Casey Roberts scored on a 4-yard plunge atthe end of the first quarter. Fortunately, linemen Cody Warren fellon the football when Roberts followed into the end zone.

Against Bogue Chitto, freshman running back Darnell Sampson ledthe Bears with 12 rushes for 36 yards. Roberts rushed 6 times for22 yards.

On defense, the Bears got 4 tackles apiece from Aaron McCaffreyand Roberts.

The Bobcats got 4 tackles from Robert Anderson and MattBoone.

Offensively, BC was led by quarterback Lange Porter’s 9 rushesfor 32 yards. He was tackled 6 times behind the line ofscrimmage.

Coach Burns said he was encouraged by his team’s endurance. “Wedidn’t get tired. If we can stay healthy, we can compete with a lotof teams on our schedule.”

Burns said two of his starters went down with injuries. “Ourtight end (Daniel Lofton, ankle) and fullback (Roberts, thighbruise) went out early.”

Enterprise 15, West Lincoln 6

A 27-yard pass from quarterback Corey Everett to split end TreyHerrington set up the Jackets’ first touchdown. May went 26 yardsto paydirt on the next play.

On the PAT attempt, the high snap from center landed in thehands of placekicker Wayne Nations. He responded with a conversionrun over left end for an 8-0 lead.

West Lincoln responded with a 72-yard gallop by Sampson, closingthe gap to 8-6.

In the second half, Enterprise’s Tate Ball intercepted a KevinLofton pass to end a West Lincoln scoring threat. A fumble recoveryby Chris Moak set up May’s 15-yard scoring dash.

Nations kicked the extra point for a 15-6 lead.

Sampson led the Bears with 12 carries for 86 yards. Mayaccounted for 96 yards.

On defense, Mark Case led the Bears with 7 tackles. Chris Fullerhad 3 tackles for Enterprise.

Enterprise 20, Bogue Chitto 0

Enterprise scored on its first possession, marching 75 yards in7 plays, aided by a pass interference penalty against the Bobcats.Vincent Smith, a 350-pound lineman, entered the game at tailbackfor the 1-yard TD plunge.

May raced 33 yards for the second TD and Nations kicked theextra point for a 13-0 halftime lead. In the second half, a 68-yardscoring run by May secured the decision.

Bogue Chitto was led by Lyvanda Carmichael who rushed 6 timesfor 73 yards. C.J. Tate had 3 carries for 34 yards.

Although the Bobcats were not a full speed, Coach Sartin refusedto make excuses. “Both teams came out and played better than us.West Lincoln looked much improved.

“We have to do some things to get better,” Sartin continued.”Our defense played well at times. I had eight new people ondefense and I’m proud of the effort.”

On defense, the Bobcats got 5 tackles from Eric Allen andTate.
