Jackets sweep Bo’ Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO – Bogue Chitto center Yolanda Drummond’s field goalcut the Enterprise lead to one point, 55-54 with 14 seconds left toplay Tuesday night in Calhoun Gymnasium.
Enterprise senior forward Lacey Palomarez was fouled with 12seconds remaining. Palomarez netted one of two free throws to givethe Lady Yellow Jackets a thrilling 56-54 Division 7-1A win overthe Lady Bobcats.
Palomarez finished the contest with a game-high 29 points,including 12 of 16 from the charity line. She also collected fiverebounds, six steals and six assists.
In the boys game, Bogue Chitto senior Dominick Addison sustaineda hip injury early in the second quarter and left the game as theBobcats were unable to overcome the Jackets’ speed and fell to thevisitors 78-59.
The Lady Bobcats (10-1, 6-2) led 14-6 at the end of the firstquarter and 34-22 at the half. Enterprise (10-1, 6-1) battled backwith a 23-11 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 45-allgoing into the final frame.
“The girls did alright after we settled down,” said Enterprisegirls coach Billy Vaughn. “This bunch can say it’s not over tillit’s over.”
Junior guard Jessica Melton led Bogue Chitto with 16 points.Marquita Ratcliff followed with 14 points and Drummond finishedwith 11 points. Randi Moak was held to six points and was in foultrouble in the second half before fouling out with 12 seconds leftin the game.
Joyce Allen netted seven points, made six steals and had sixassists for the Lady Jackets. Tops off the backboards was DaisySanders with 10 rebounds. Andrea Harthorne made three steals andhad three assists.
The Jackets (8-3, 5-2) got 18 points apiece from senior guardRufus Allen and forward R.C. Johnson in the victory. ShermaineVaughn pumped in 16 points and Pierre Harthorne scored 12points.
On the backboards, Vaughn led the Jackets with 12 reboundsfollowed by Kary Brown with seven, Johnson and Allen with sixapiece. Making five steals apiece were Vaughn and Allen. Blockingtwo shots apiece were Billy Reeves and Brown.
Bogue Chitto (10-4, 7-1) trailed Enterprise by six points,26-20, at the end of the first quarter and was down13 points,45-32, at halftime. Addison, a powerful 6-1 forward, sustained hisinjury early in the second quarter when he was fouled on a layupand hit the hardwood court awkwardly.
Bogue Chitto boys coach Theo Black said Addison’s injury andabsence made a difference. “He provides our senior leadership.”Addison had six points before leaving the game.
Directing the Bobcats with 14 points was Carlos Brown. Scoring12 points was Michael Blackwell. Finishing with 10 points was LukeHale.
“We had two good wins tonight,” added Coach Vaughn. “This putsis in better shape in the district.”
Junior varsity girls
The Enterprise girls held off Bogue Chitto down the stretch fora 25-23 win. Ashley Palomarez led Enterprise with seven pointsfollowed by Deanna Allbritton and Nicole Beard with four pointsapiece.
Candice Braxton paced Bogue Chitto with eight points. StanciLong finished with five points.
