Bogue Chitto sacks Wesson

BOGUE CHITTO – Bogue Chitto and Wesson resumed playSaturday afternoon, after a 21-day delay. The Dec. 15 game at R.C.”Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium was postponed due to the gym floor’scontinuous perspiration. Action was halted at the end of the firstquarter of the varsity girls game, with Bogue Chitto leading Wesson14-3.

The Lady Bobcats did not show any effects of the layoff;hammering out a 59-29 win over the Lady Cobras. BC guard JessicaMelton led all scorers with 20 points, along with 10 rebounds, 3assists and 7 steals.

In the varsity boys game, a crucial turnover by Wessonin the final seconds allowed the homestanding Bogue Chitto Bobcatsto hold on for a 74-67 win over the Cobras.

Wesson plays host to Richland in a Division 6-2 testTuesday night. The varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m., followedby the varsity boys game at 7:30.

Bogue Chitto will host Brookhaven on Tuesday. A JV gamebegins at 5, followed by the varsity girls at 6. The varsity boysgame is set to begin at 7:30.

Bogue Chitto 59, Wesson 29

Wesson (4-10) opened the second quarter with basketballpossession. The Lady Cobras got good shots but they weren’tfalling. Turnovers played a role in the 30-pointdefeat.

Melton had the hot hand in the second quarter, scoring13 points and getting 3 steals as the Lady Bobcats roared to a37-12 lead at the intermission.

Bogue Chitto (11-2), coached by Mickey Myers, continuedto convert Wesson turnovers inlto baskets, commanding a 49-24 leadheading into the final quarter.

Lending support for the Lady Bobcats was Randi Moak with12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 steals. Marquita Ratcliff dished out 3assists.

Jessica Phillips led Wesson with 8 points and 4rebounds. Anna Johnson had 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Bogue Chitto 74, Wesson 67

Neither team could establish a serious momentum surge.The largest lead for both teams was only 7 points.

Bogue Chitto led 14-12 after one period of play. SeniorTradell Black and freshman Dorian Dunn commanded the paint forBobcat head coach Theodore “Bo” Black, combining for 10points.

Dunn scored a team-high 23 points for BogueChitto.

Wesson, coached by Jimmy Nails, held a 23-18 lead on abasket by Richie Miller midway through the second quarter. Millerled all scorers with 28 points.

Bobcat point guard Carlos Brown reeled off 7 consecutivepoints in a 7-1 run as Bogue Chitto reclaimed the lead 25-24.Black’s ballclub led 28-26 going into the halftime lockerroom.

The Cobras wouldn’t go away easily as Wesson fought backfrom several 5-point deficits. Nails’s squad trailed 52-45 enteringthe final stanza.

Bogue Chitto seemed to have this game in hand, usingseveral possession in the period to run time off the clock. Wessoncut the Bobcat lead to 1 point, 66-65 on pair of free throws byLorenzo Eason with 1:30 left in the game.

Two costly turnovers by Wesson and 4 points by Dunn inthe final minute closed the door on a Cobra comeback.

Bobcat Dominick Addison provided rebounding support with9. Marc Howard had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Black had 5steals and 4 assists.
