Wesson taps Richland 5-4

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras held off a late rally by theRichland Lady Rangers to secure a 5-4 Division 6-2A winThursday.
WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras held off a late rally by theRichland Lady Rangers to secure a 5-4 Division 6-2A win Thursday.Wesson improved to 7-8 overall and 4-1 in the division.
The Lady Cobras exploded for all five runs in the bottom of thefirst inning for a 5-0 lead. Millie Smith led off with a triple.Valorie Brooks (1RBI) tripled to score Smith. Heather Morgan (1RBI)followed with a single to score Brooks. Brittany Smith reachedfirst base on a fielder’s choice and was moved around on a singlefrom Maggie Johnson. Anna Johnson singled to score Smith. Hitting atriple was Kail Baldwin that scored both Johnson’s. Baldwin wastagged out at third base for the final out of the inning.
Richland scored all four of its runs in the top of the fourth.Larame Lester tripled and was driven home on a single by BrittanyMyers. Emily Wood made it to first on a fielder’s choice. Aninfield error allows Shelby Young on base. Jessica Williams belteda triple and scored Wood and Young. Natalie Burns sacrificed tocenter field to score Williams for the fourth and final run.
Brooks, Chanelle McCrory and Jessica Phillips also singled forthe Lady Cobras.
Hitting a three singles for Richland was Stephanie Presley. Alsorecording a single for Richland were Amber Johnson, Myers andLaShondra Williams.
Wesson travels to St. Andrew’s for a junior varsity and varsitygame. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m.
