FRANKLINTON, LA. — Three Bogalousa men were arrested during theweekend in connection with the beating of two referees during aboys basketball game Friday, said authorities.

Adli C. McGehee, 373 O.A. Green Road in Bogalousa, was chargedwith second degree battery and disturbing the peace, while hisbrother, Sacha R. McGehee, of the same address, was charged withsecond degree battery, simple battery and disturbing the peace,according to Franklinton Police Chief Lynn Armand.

Frank Glenn, age unavailable, of 62100 Pool Bluff Road,Bogalousa, was charged with simple battery and disturbing thepeace,said Armand.

Glenn is the father of Cody Glenn, a basketball player fromBowling Green Academy, the team that was playing BrookhavenAcademy.

With less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter,referee Charlie Ackerman of Franklinton called a personal foul onCody Glenn and then a flagrant technical after the player tried tothrow a punch at a Brookhaven Academy player, according to refereeBill Brantley of Monticello.

While Ackerman was trying to get the clock set to the correcttime, the elder Glenn hopped the railing surrounding the basketballcourt and confronted the referee.

A fight began between the two men, and soon other men from theBowling Green crowd got involved.

“I don’t know why the others got involved,” said Armand. “We’restill reviewing the tapes to see who else was involved.”

Three tapes, including two from Brookhaven Academy fans, wereconfiscated by police to help them determine who should be chargedin the incident.

No law enforcement officers were present during the ballgamebetween the two private schools battling for first place in theDistrict 4-AA race.

“In public schools, it’s mandatory for police to be there, butthey (private schools) don’t request law enforcement for theirballgames,” said Armand. “It could have ended sooner with anofficer there. We would have seen it brewing.”

Armand said his department has been contacted about providingsecurity at future ballgames, if Bowling Green is allowed tocompete in other athletic events.
