Lady Panthers return experience for softball

Team experience will be a strength as the Brookhaven LadyPanthers launch their 2011 season in fastpitch softball. The LadyPanthers will have three seniors providing leadership: MadelineDeLaughter, Erica Lenior and Sarah Ayers, plus eight starters
“A year older and another year wiser,” said Brookhaven head coachChad Walker. “We are looking for a better season and to be moreconsistent”
Walker will be starting his fifth season at the helm. The LadyPanthers look to improve on a 5-20 season record last year and a0-4 record in district play.
The Lady Panthers have eight returning starters back to help in thefield: Brooke Hosick at pitcher, Madeline DeLaughter at first base,Shelby Peavey at second base, Erica Bridwell at shortstop, EmilyFreeman at third base, Sarah Ayers at left field, Shelby Case atright field and Christen Benson at catcher.
Brookhaven lost one starter to graduation last year: CenterfielderStevie Ann Wright who signed with Co-Lin.
Brookhaven assistant coaches are Mandy Vinson and Megan Case.Walker has 25 players on his squad.
The Lady Panthers’ first home game will be against the EnterpriseLady Yellow Jackets, March 4. The junior varsity game will precedethe varsity game.
