Area players selected for Bernard Blackwell Classic

CLINTON — The 60th Bernard Blackwell All Star Football Classic,sponsored by Russell Athletic and Rex Team Sports, will be held onThursday night, July 16, at Hale-Robinson Stadium on the campus ofMississippi College. The pregame events are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.and kickoff at 7. Tickets will be available at the gate for only$5.00 per person with all seats general admission.

The game features a North-South format and the South leads theseries 26-25-4. The North defeated the South 16-7 in the 2008contest.

The North will be coached by Phil Oakley of Senatobia while theSouth will be led by Dodd Lee of Picayune. Each squad consists of36 players.

Representing the South from the area are Jordan Hunt of FranklinCounty, Kendrick Hardy and Monterrio Taylor of Lawrence County,Donovan Hill of McComb and Jermaine Turner and Jewell Christian ofSouth Pike.

The Bernard Blackwell All Star Football Classic is formerlyknown as the Mississippi High School All Star Football Game and wasoriginated in 1950 by Mississippi State coach Arthur “Slick”Morton. The MAC assumed sponsorship of the game from the JacksonTouchdown Club in 1993. In 1994, the game was renamed for CoachBernard Blackwell, the late Executive Director of the MAC.
