Wolves beat Kishwaukee

WESSON — The Co-Lin Co-Lin Wolves defeated the KishwaukeeKougars 5-4 in the final game of a three-game series Monday atSullivan Field. The Kishwaukee is out of Malta, Illinois.
Co-Lin fell to East Mississippi 4-0 in the first game andKishwaukee thumped East Mississippi 9-7 in the second game.
The Wolves, coached by Keith Case, are 13-9 on the season.
Co-Lin 5, Kishwaukee 4
The Wolves took the lead for good on Kishwaukee 5-3 in thebottom of the sixth inning. Kishwaukee (2-3) added one run in thetop of the seventh to cut the deficit to one run.
“We gave them some runs in the late innings,” said Case.
“We came out and scored two in the first and secondinnings.”
“We are fortunate,” added Case. “It got closer at the end thanwe would have liked.”
Derek Thompson (3-2) posted the win. Thompson allowed four runson three hits, struck out seven batters and walked four. Te Rileyworked 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and struck out one forfirst save.
Garrett Jones doubled and singled for the Wolves. Josh Logansingled twice. Xavier Qualls,
Patrick Williams singled and Jody Britt singled.
East Mississippi 4, Co-Lin 0
Ryan Belanger (2-2) absorbed the loss in the first game. Pitches6 inning allowed 4 run on 6 hits, struck out 7 and walked three.Lance Deville pitched final inning with a strikeout.
Josh Logan crushed centerfield wall and injured his elbow makingthe out.
“We didn’t control the game well,” said Case. “We had a coupleof chances. We had a chance to do something in the third. The gamewas 1-1 and we had a runner on. We weren’t able to score that guy.In fifth, we got two runners on and had bases loaded in sixth anddidn’t score. We didn’t do a very good job or running thebases.”
Britt doubled and singled for the Wolves. Logan, Ben Sandiferand Matthew Schexnayder singled,
“You are pleased with the split,” added Case. “You go in the daywanting to sweep them. Robert Tucker of East Mississippi did a goodjob on the mound.”
Co-Lin hosts Onadaga of Syracuse, N.Y., Thursday for adoubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
