Lady Panthers trample McComb in district test

The Brookhaven Lady Panther notched their first victory inDistrict 5A, beating the McComb Lady Tigers 6-2 Thursday night inslowpitch softball action.

“It is good to get the district win,” said BHS head coach LisaCovington. “We hit the ball well in spurts.”

The Panthers (7-4, 1-0) resume action Monday, traveling to Summitfor a makeup game against the North Pike Lady Jaguars. The game isset to start with the junior varsity at 6 p.m. followed by varsityat 7. Brookhaven will also be traveling to McComb Tuesday to playthe Tigers in a district contest. Game time starts with JV at 5p.m. followed by varsity at 6.

BHS 6, McComb 2

Brooke Hosick collected the win for the Panthers with no strikeoutsand allowing no walks.

Leyton Terrell absorbed the loss for McComb, with no strikeouts andtwo walks.

Erica Lenior and Sarah Ayers directed the Brookhaven offense with atriple apiece. Madeline DeLaughter provided a double. Emily Freemanhit two singles. Hitting safely were Erica Bridwell, ChristenBenson, Rashana Stewart and Hosick.

Kamry Creel was the leading batter for the Tigers with threesingles. Desiree Mallery contributed two singles. Danielle Farnumprovided a double. Victoria Price, Breann Talbert and Terrell hit asingle apiece.

In JV action, McComb blanked the Panthers 9-0. Alycen Speaksabsorbed the loss for Brookhaven.

Taylor Murray led the Panthers with two singles. Hitting safelywere Shelby Case, Carlee Ballard and Julianna Porter.
