Lady Jackets slug Wesson

WESSON – Sarah Burke slugged two inside-the-park home runsThursday night, leading the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets to an8-2 victory against Wesson’s Lady Cobras in a Region 6-2A fastpitchsoftball showdown. The victory secured Enterprise second place inthe region race and landed the Jackets (16-6-1, 5-2) a berth in thestate playoffs.

“Sarah Burke got some clutch hits and Taylor Nelson pitched a goodgame,” said Enterprise boss Steve Sasser. “It was a hard-foughtgame for both teams. We played good defense and they kept itclose.”

Burke’s base-clearing slams came in the second and fourth innings.Teammates Tori Ryall, Chynna Coghlan, Ashley Greer, Karla Beth Huxand Kolbi Lewis collected singles in the victory.

Sasser’s girls didn’t commit an error as Nelson tossed a 6-hitter.The freshman struck out eight batters and walked two.

Enterprise participates in Saturday’s Bogue Chitto Tournament,meeting Lawrence County at 11:30 a.m. and East Webster at 4p.m.

“We weren’t focused and ready to play tonight,” said Wesson coachJackie Johnson after the disappointing defeat. Her team committedthree errors.

Pitcher Mak Rials (3 K, 4 BB) absorbed the loss.

Wesson (8-8, 3-4) got three singles from shortstop Christina Fink.Macie McQuage doubled and singled.

Junior Varsity Results

Wesson edged Wesson 1-0 in the preliminary JV game as Abby Smith (2K, 0 BB) picked up the win. Taylor Fink (3 K, 2 BB) provided reliefpitching.

Hannah Moak (8 K, 2 BB) was the losing pitcher.
