Services for Mabel Laird Nettles of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Saturday, July 27, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Franklin Countywith burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5-9 p.m. at Harrigill FuneralHome.

Mrs. Nettles, 96, died July 24, 2002, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. She was born in Franklin County on Aug. 13, 1906,to James Madison Laird and Celia Jane McGehee Laird.

She was a retired house mother for the Baptist Children’sVillage in Clinton. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Leroy,Hubert, Otis and John Laird; and her sister, Nona Rea Walker.

Survivors are her sons, Dewayne Nettles of Brookhaven and LesterNettles of Fresno, Calif.; her daughters, Marita Jane Booth ofSpring, Texas, Geraldine Ashmore of Brookhaven, and Lorraine Smithof Atlantic Beach, Fla.; her brothers, Shelby Laird and JamesLaird, both of Groves, Texas; her sisters, Myrtle Chandler ofLenoir City, Tenn., and Retha Williams of New Orleans; and 15grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives andfriends.
