Co-Lin drops twinbill to Delgado

WESSON – Pitching was exceptional Wednesday as Delgado CommunityCollege battled the Co-Lin Wolfpack in a baseball doubleheader. TheDolphins won the opener 1-0 and then took the nightcap 10-5 inSullivan Stadium.
Co-Lin (3-3) resumes play Friday at Mississippi Delta. The twinbillstarts at 1 p.m. in Moorhead. Co-Lin head coach Keith Case said theMarch 1 date with Coahoma has been moved to Monday, Feb. 28, andwill be played at Delta State University in Cleveland. Game time is1 p.m.

Southpaw winning pitcher Brent Bonvilain went 7 innings. The6-foot-2 sophomore from Houma, La., gave up 4 hits, struck out 12batters, walked none and hit 1 batter.
“He’s (Bonvilain) one of the best pitchers I’ve seen,” said CoachCase. “He’s tall and he pitched downhill. His velocity was 87-91,”miles per hour. “He could hit the corners.”
Case said losing hurler Brandon Jones “pitched extremely well.”Jones also tossed a 4-hitter. He fanned 4 batters and walked1.
The Dolphins (6-1) plated the winning run in the top of thefourth., Back-to-back singles by Daniel Brockhoeft and ChadFortenberry led off the inning. A sacrifice fly advanced therunners and Brockhoeft scored on a fielder’s choice grounder byJoseph Manalla.
“It was a great baseball game,” said Coach Case. “There were twogood pitchers on the mound.”
Delgado 10, Co-Lin 5
Brockhoeft, a third baseman, went 4-for-7 in two games. He hit asolo homer in the second inning of the finale and also doubled.Designated hitter Angel Bruno had 3 hits and scored 3 times.
Southpaw starter Jordan Speer was replaced by right-hander NateFury who was the winning pitcher in 5 innings of relief. Fury gaveup 5 hits, 1 run, walked 2 and fanned 4.
Co-Lin freshman right-hander Tripp Jolly went 2.2 innings and gaveup 7 runs on 5 hits. He walked 4 batters, fanned 1 and hit 1 intaking the loss.
The Dolphins raced to a 7-1 second inning lead. Raymond Winterhurled 1-hit relief for the Pack.
“We left 10 runners on base,” said Case. “We gave ourselves achance but we didn’t score.”
The Wolves got doubles from Bud Britt and Jesse Shows. Brittfinished with 3 hits. Dehendret Collins, Edmund Cheatham and StevenCapistran had 2 hits apiece.
