Funeral services for Levan Blackwell, of Bogue Chitto, are 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at New Zion Union M.B. Church in Bogue Chitto, with burial in Bogue Chitto Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Blackwell, 75, died April 27, 2012, at his home. He was born in Bogue Chitto on Oct. 15, 1936, to J.C. and Minette McGee Blackwell.
He attended Lincoln County Training School. He was retired. He worked at Jacobson Lawn Mower Plant and Gordon Redd Lumber Co. Mr. Blackwell was a member of New Zion Union M.B. Church where he served as a trustee.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, William Blackwell, James E. Blackwell, Ganner Blackwell and W.M. Blackwell; and four sisters, Mary Lou Brown, Nelma Edwards, Mynell Dorsey and Hilda Montgomery.
Survivors are his wife, Grace Bates Blackwell; sons, Charlie Bates and wife, Charlene, of Jackson, and JaDarius Blackwell, of Bogue Chitto; daughters, Evelyn Swington, of Bogue Chitto, Diane Buie and husband, John, of Jackson, and Barbara May, of Chicago; brothers, John Wesley Blackwell and wife, Jessie Mae, of Springfield, Mass., Matthew Blackwell and wife, Bess, of Jackson, James S. Blackwell, of Houston, and Murray Lee Blackwell, of Atlanta; sisters, Elnora Dorsey, of Bogue Chitto, and Velvelyn Foster and husband, E.C., of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special friends, Johnny Hall Sr. and family, Calvin Lewis and family and J.T. Addison; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
