Two men and a juvenile have been arrested and charged inconnection with an auto burglary earlier this week, according toauthorities.
Randy Earl Smith, 19, of 1520 Falvey Road, Wesson; CedricHarris, 20, of 402 Minnesota Street; and a Brookhaven juvenile werearrested shortly after the incident and charged with auto burglary, said Brookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones.
They remain in the Lincoln County Jail on bonds of $2,500each.
Their arrests stem from a call to the Brookhaven PoliceDepartment at 7:32 p.m., December 10.
“We were called to North Second Street for an auto burglary inprogress,” Jones said.
Jones explained that a concerned citizen noticed three menbreaking into a car and then getting into it.
Another concerned citizen started walking toward the vehicle, and the men got out and back into their own vehicle, Jonesadded.
“He interrupted their plans,” he said. “We’d like to thank thecitizens for their help in this.”
Jones believes the citizens’ efforts resulted in nothing beingtaken from the vehicle, whereas a radio or other items could havebeen targeted.
When officers arrived to find the suspects had already left, they found a vehicle matching the description of theirs travelingalong Monticello Street near Railroad Avenue.
“Officers pulled the vehicle over there and were able to makethe arrests,” said Jones.
Brookhaven Police Officers are also investigating the theft of afour-wheeler and another all-terrain vehicle last week from aKawasaki dealership on First Street.
The ATVs were apparently stolen during the night sometimebetween Dec. 1 and 3, said Jones, asking for the help of anyone whomay have information on those crimes by calling the policedepartment at 833-2424.
