Lady Panthers spring surprise at Bo’ Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO — When the dust had cleared on Stan Long Field,the Brookhaven Lady Panthers were heading home with a narrow 6-5slowpitch softball Monday night win over Bogue Chitto’s Lady ‘Cats.It was the first loss in 4 games for BC and Ole Brook’s firstwin.
“I am proud of my girls,” said Ole Brook head coach LisaCovington. “This was a big win for us, especially against a verygood Bogue Chitto team.”
Covington’s girls overcame 4 errors.
Third baseman Christi Martin directed Ole Brook with 3 singlesas the Panthers (1-3) roared to a 6-0, sixth-inning lead. GeorgiaRae Rainer singled twice. Sarah Ayers and Stevie Wright doubled.Jordan Beeson, Brianna Ashmore, Katie Stewart and Hannah Lowmansingled.
Ashmore pitched the win. She walked 3 batters and fannednone.
LaToya Braxton absorbed the loss. She fanned none and walked1.
“BHS did a great job hitting the ball,” said Bogue Chitto coachScott Leggett. “We waited around too late but I was proud of oureffort to come back.
“It will pay off in the long run.”
The ‘Cats finished with 9 hits, powered by Chelsey Miller whosingled twice and hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.Collecting single hits were Caitlyn Owen, Jessie Miller, Dori Hall,Shaquille Burton, Devon Welch and Kelli Howard.
BC hosts Wesson Thursday, starting at 5 p.m. with the juniorvarsity game. The varsity plays at 6.
In the JV game, Bogue Chitto prevailed 6-5 asToy Smith (2 Ks, 2 BBs) pitched the win. Brook Hosick (0 Ks, 4 BBs)absorbed the loss.
At the plate, BC got singles from Josie Porter, KimberleeThomas, Mikki Mitchell, Morgan Roberts, Bradi Davis, Holly Millerand Smith.
