BC girls crush Cathedral

NATCHEZ – Shaquille Burton smashed a home run and two singles todirect the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats to a 14-1 division win over theNatchez Cathedral Lady Green Wave Thursday night in slowpitchsoftball play.
Bogue Chitto (19-2, 9-0) is coached by Scott and DeniseLeggett.
“We started out very slow tonight with our bats,” said Leggett.”We hit the ball extremely well in the fifth and sixth. That’s theway we need to play every inning as a team.”
North Pike plays Saturday in the Brookhaven Tournament. Theybegin at 9 a.m. against North Pike.
Following Burton at the plate with a triple and two singles wasLatoya Braxton. Chelsey Miller tripled and singled, Kelli Howarddoubled and singled. Collecting two singles each were Dori Hall,Caitlin Owen and Jessie Miller. Candace Avants, Devon Welch, BlaineMyers and Kim Thomas hit safely.
Braxton (13-2,. 9-0) got the win on the mound, striking out onebatter and walking two. Brandi McGraw took the loss with onestrikeout and one walk.
Cathedral got a single from Melissa Caven, Jennifer Benard, AnnaHuffins and Jennie Allen.
Junior varsity action
Bogue Chitto knocked off Cathedral 9-3 in the JV game.Toy Smith was the winning hurler with five strikeouts and sevenwalks.
Leading the 11-1 Lady ‘Cats with a double and twosingles was Jesie Porter. Darcy Miller and Amanda Owen smashed twosingles apiece. Hitting safely were Kim Thomas, Mikki Mitchell,Holly Miller, Hannah Holmes and Brandi Davis.
