BHS sacks BC, Tylertown

MONTICELLO – The Brookhaven Panthers managed to bounce backafter a tough loss late Monday night to sweep the Bogue ChittoBobcats 12-1 and the Tylertown Chiefs 9-0 Wednesday afternoon atJimmie Davis Park in the Lawrence County Spring Break BaseballClassic.
“This was two great games and my pitchers did an excellent job forus,” said Brookhaven coach Randy Spring. “We hit the ball reallywell. Hopefully these games we played this week will helped us turnit around and get ready for district.”
Bogue Chitto captured a split as the Bobcats outlasted the WestLincoln Bears in 14-12 marathon Wednesday morning.
The Panthers (4-5) resume action today, traveling to Natchez toface the Cathedral Green Wave for a varsity game only, beginning at5 p.m.
Bogue Chitto (6-4) and West Lincoln (3-5) will also be in actiontoday as the Bobcats host the Mt. Hermon Yellow Jackets at 4 p.m.and the Bears will also battle the Jackets of Louisiana on StanLong Field at 6 p.m.
The Lawrence County tournament continues today, as the Cougars hostthe final two games: Tylertown at 5 p.m. and Enterprise at 7 p.m..Immediately following the last game Lawrence County will conduct aspecial fireworks show to end the Spring Break Classic.
Bogue Chitto 14, W. Lincoln 12
The Bobcats and the Bears battled back and forth from the startinggates before running out of time on a 2-hour time limit in thefifth inning.
Brock Roberts was the winning pitcher for Bogue Chitto with twostrikeouts and three walks. Sam Bivens absorbed the setback forWest Lincoln with three strikeouts and five walks.
Kevin Brothern was the offensive leader for the Bobcats with threesingles. Hunter Ginn belted a double. Hitting safely were GarrettWallace, Colton McClendon and Brock Roberts.
“We hit the ball really well,” said Bogue Chitto coach Jody Britt.”We managed to get key hits when we had runners on thebases.”
Jacob Lea led the Bears on offense with a triple. Jared Casecontributed a double. Jonathon Buckley provided two singles. WestLincoln got singles from Jay Case, Tyler Moak, Sawyer Evans andTyler Roberts.
Brookhaven 12, Bogue Chitto 1
This game started off as a battle between two outstanding pitchersbefore the Bobcats ran out of gas in the third inning. The Pantherstook advantage of the situation as their bats came alive andexploded for 10 runs.
J.D. Britt was the winning pitcher for Brookhaven with nostrikeouts and two walks. Michael Martin suffered the loss forBogue Chitto with one strikeout and two walks.
Dillon Newell provided the offensive spark for the Panthers withtwo doubles. Houston Case contributed three singles. Joel Patrickbelted two singles. Drew Jones orchestrated a double and a single.E.J Henderson hit a single.
The Bobcats recorded only two hits: singles from Brock Roberts andGarrett Wallace.
“We played very well, but we just could not hit the ball,” saidCoach Britt. “Brookhaven played an outstanding game. J.D. Britt dida great job keeping us off balance.
Brookhaven 9, Tylertown 0
In the final game of the day, the Panthers had déjà vu happen forthem again in the third inning as they exploded for 7 runs andadded 2 more runs in the fourth to end the game in the fifth inningon a 8-run rule format for the tournament.
Houston Case pitched the shutout win for the Panthers, collectingeight strikeouts and no walks. Trey Pezant took the loss for theChiefs with one strikeout and four walks.
Drew Jones was the leader on offense for Brookhaven with a homerun. Scottie Peavey and Gabe Wilson contributed a single apiece.Newell belted a double. Hitting safely were Britt andHenderson.
Tylertown (5-2), coached by Chris McCallum, recorded singles fromLadarrius Slocum and Waylon Sumrall.
