Wilson, Terrell to coach Bogue Chitto basketball

BOGUE CHITTO — Christi Wallace Terrell and Todd Wilson, twoyoung coaches with local roots, have been hired to coach basketballat Bogue Chitto. BC principal Jerry Meador made the announcementafter Wilson was approved at Monday night’s Lincoln County SchoolBoard meeting.
Wilson and Terrell replace Jason Kennedy who left after one yearat the helm to seek employment at another school.
Wilson, 26, is a 1996 graduate of North Pike High School inSummit. He spent his freshman year in college at Southern Miss,then transferred to Southwest Mississippi Community College. A6-foot-5 guard, he moved to Gardner-Webb University in BoilingSprings, N.C. and then to Springhill College in Mobile, Ala.
Wilson transferred back to Southern Miss to obtain a degree insports administration in 2001. He obtained a master’s degee in2003.
For the last three years Wilson served as an assistant coach onJames Green’s staff at USM. Green resigned this spring.
“I learned a lot of basketball under Coach Green,” said Wilson.”I had an opportunity to play and work for him.”
North Pike and Bogue Chitto are longtime arch rivals and Wilsonplayed against the Bobcats on numerous occasions. During his prepcareer he was named to The DAILY LEADER’s All-Area BasketballTeam.
“I’m excited about coaching Bogue Chitto basketball,” saidWilson. “They have always been very competitive for a small school.I look forward to getting started. They are a successfulprogram.”
Wilson is single. He played for his father, Cassels Wilson, atNorth Pike. His mother, Debbie, taught school at North Pike andserved as the basketball team’s scorekeeper before herretirement.
Wilson will teach science at Bogue Chitto. He also will coachthe junior high boys basketball team.
“Todd Wilson brings some college coaching experience to thetable,” said Meador. “I think he will do a great job. He is veryknowledgeable. He knows what it takes to win.”
The Bobcats finished 20-14 under Kennedy in a strong finish,winning the Division 7-1A Tournament. They lost to Thomastown inthe opening round of the South Mississippi 1A playoffs. Threestarters return.
Terrell is taking classes at William Carey College this summerto complete her teaching requirements. A 1999 Bogue Chittograduate. She went to Copiah-Lincoln Community College for twoyears, playing basketball and softball. She played basketball forMickey Myers at Bogue Chitto and Gwyn Young at Co-Lin.
Terrell obtained her BS in business administration. She majoredin accounting. Her parents are Alan and Cindy Wallace.
“We feel very fortunate to get Christi,” said Meador. “I knowshe will coach it the way she played the game, with a lot ofintensity and hustle. She will be a great asset to BogueChitto.”
Terrell will teach health and family dynamics. She married intoa basketball family. Her husband, Chris; and father-in-law, GabeTerrell, both coached at Bogue Chitto, taking their respectiveteams to the state tournament.
During her high school career, Terrell was a softball all-starteam member and earned All-County honors on The DAILY LEADER’ssoftball and basketball dream teams.
Terrell said she is looking forward to coaching her alma mater.”I’m very excited about this job. I’m optimistic about having agood. year. Bogue Chitto has high expectations for girlsbasketball. We have a lot to live up to.”
She said the Lady ‘Cats were scheduled to practice next Mondaynight in Calhoun Gymnasium. “I look forward to meeting all theplayers. We have some talent to work with.”
In a rebuilding campaign, Kennedy coached the Lady ‘Cats to a24-9 record and a berth in the Class 1A state playoffs. Threestarters will return.
Softball set: Meador said that Scott and DeniseLeggett have been hired to coach softball at Bogue Chitto,slowpitch and fastpitch. They replace Duane and Amy Burt whocoached the team for one year. Duane is returning to college.
