Wolfpack sweeps Hinds

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves swept the Hinds Community CollegeEagles Wednesday in the Cellular South Backyard Brawl series onSullivan Field. With a breeze blowing the huge American flag behindthe center field fence, it was a beautiful day for baseball. Co-Linwon the opener 15-8 and the nightcap 4-0, claiming the championshiptrophy.

“We had two real good wins,” said Co-Lin head coach Keith Case.”I was proud of our guys. They went out and competed realwell.”

Co-Lin climbs to 9-2 overall. Hinds fell to 2-6. The Wolfpackhosts Baton Rouge Community College Saturday for a doubleheader,starting at 1 p.m.

Co-Lin 15, Hinds 8

Sophomore hurler Matt Buckels picked up the win, with reliefhelp from Ryan Hoben in the fifth. Buckels went 4 innings, allowing8 runs, 6 of them earned. He gave up 7 hits, struck out 3 andwalked 1.

Hoben pitched 3 innings of 1-hit relief. He fanned 3 and walkednone.

Third baseman Garrett Jones led the Wolves with a 4-for-4performance, including 4 RBI. In the first he had a 2-RBI single.Jones homered hit a 3-run homer in the second.

“We swung the bats well,” said Coach Case. “Hinds threw a prettygood lefty at us and I was concerned. We had some aggressiveat-bats.”

First baseman Todd Siders hit a 2-run homer in the fourth. ColeHodges doubled and shortstop Josh Logan had 3 hits. Siders and DaneOrders both had 2 hits.

The Eagles got a homer from Cory Stevens. Andrew Parrish had 3hits, including a triple.

Co-Lin 4, Hinds 0

Winning pitcher Brandon Chretien (3-0) gave up 1 hit. He struckout 2 batters and walked 2. He had a no-hitter through 5innings.

Matthew Tubbs tossed 1 inning of relief.

Brandon pitched really well last Thursday against Hinds when wewon 3-1,” said Case. “He didn’t have his best stuff tonight but hebattled and gave us a chance to win.”

Designated hitter Jeremy Boler had 2 hits for Co-Lin. Logan,Jones, Hodges and Ryan Williams singled.

Collecting an RBI for Co-Lin were Hodges, Orders and JoelHurt.

In the first inning, Logan led off with a single. Xavier Quallsmoved Logan to second on a ground ball and Logan stole third base.Hurt hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Williams led off with a bunt single. Jonessingled to right field. Orders used a suicide squeeze bunt to scoreWilliams from third. Hodges drove in Jones for a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Boler singled to center. Orders advanced him on agrounder. An errant pickoff throw allowed Boler to score fromsecond.
