Crystal Springs Tigers hang two setbacks on Ole Brook

A pair of old rivals met Tuesday night, as Brookhaven andCrystal Springs did battle in Sinclair Gymnasium. The Lady Tigersand Tigers swept the doubleheader, winning 52-44 and 68-56respectively.

The same two teams meet tonight in the opening round of theCrystal Springs Round-Robin Tournament, at 7 and 8:30 p.m.Hazlehurst and Ridgeland open tournament action at 4:30 and 6.

On Thursday, Brookhaven meets Hazlehurst at 4:30 and 6, withCrystal Springs and Ridgeland meeting in the nightcap. Saturday’saction features Brookhaven and Ridgeland at 4:30 and 6, followed byCrystal Springs and Hazlehurst.

Crystal Springs 52, Brookhaven 44

The Lady Panthers (3-4) closed out the first period with a 12-8lead. Ole Brook was the victim of a 17-0 run by Crystal Springs;trailing 25-14 at the intermission break. Both teams combined toshoot 12 of 45 (27 percent) from the field in the first half.

The Lady Tigers (5-4) used a 15 of 21 performance from thecharity stripe in the second half, to hold off a late Lady Pantherrally. Tyesha Williams paced all scorers with 19 points for CrystalSprings.

Brookhaven, coached by Billy Holmes, was led by Portia Dickeyand Jermecia Jones with 11 points apiece. Dickey had 7 rebounds.Swayze Black grabbed 8 rebounds and picked up 3 steals, beforefouling out. Angel Weston had 2 steals and dished out 3 assists.Alesha Irvin had 2 assists.

The Lady Panthers committed 30 turnovers, while Crystal Springsmade 23. Ole Brook shot 12 of 42 (29 percent) overall for the game.The Lady Tigers were 15 of 54 (28 percent) on the night. Reboundingwas deadlocked at 32-all.

Crystal Springs 68, Brookhaven 56

The Tigers (5-4) found themselves trailing 16-13 entering thesecond frame. Crystal Springs would take a 30-27 lead into thehalftime locker room.

Ole Brook (2-5) was on the backside of a 16-9 run in the thirdframe, trailing 46-36 entering the fourth stanza.

Sophomore Bobo Rancifer pumped in a game-high 30 points, alongwith 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Michael Washington followed with 14points. Orlandus Chapman had 3 steals. Jerome Avery dished out 3assists.

Brookhaven was 24 of 49 (49 percent) overall from the field,while Crystal Springs was 27 of 42 (64 percent). The Tigerscommitted 23 turnovers; compared to 30 by the Panthers. Ole Brookoutrebounded the Tigers 25-24.
