Co-Lin splits with LSU-Eunice

WESSON — Co-Lin bounced back from an opening game, 5-0 shutoutto beat LSU-Eunice 6-3 in the Wednesday nightcap on Sullivan Field.Damien Dalfrey hurled a 12-strikeout, 3-hitter in the opener whileCass Brister pitched the victory in Game Two.

Co-Lin (2-1), coached by Keith Case, hosts Mississippi DeltaSaturday at 1 p.m. on Sullivan Field. It will be a single, 9-inninggame.

LSU-Eunice designated hitter Dustin Harris slugged a 2-run homerin the fifth inning. Harris also doubled.

Co-Lin was limited to 3 hits by Dalfrey, a right-hander whostruck out 12 batters and walked none. “He was 88-91 (mph) with hisfastball,” said Coach Case. “His biggest pitch was a slider. He wasin a zone and he was really good.

“We didn’t play bad the first game,” said Case. “Dalfrey set thetempo in the opener.”

Dalfrey is a sophomore from Carencro, La.

Collecting hits for the Wolves were Keeyon Sanders, Casey Ginnand Patrick Williams.

Freshman Colby Beach absorbed the loss, going 5 innings. He gaveup 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Beach walked 4 and fanned 3.

Co-Lin 6, LSU-Eunice 3

Third baseman Justin Sykes had 3 RBI and Sanders scored 3 runsfor the Wolves.

Back-to-back homers by LSU-Eunice’s Keith Delahoussaye and RyanReed in the seventh kept the game interesting as the Tigers avoideda shutout.

On the mound, Brister pitched 4.2 innings, allowing an infieldsingle in the fifth. He fanned 8 batters and walked 3.

Ryan Belanger picked up the save in relief of Brister. He gaveup 2 hits on 3 earned runs. He walked 1 batter and struck out3.

“We bounced back and played well the second game,” said Case.”Cass gave us a good performance and Ryan threw some strongrelief.”

Catcher Diego Nucete, centerfielder Keeyon Sanders and Sykes had2 hits for Co-Lin. Jody Britt doubled. Jeffrey Waycastersingled.
