Ottis Houston, age 91, died Wednesday, Aug.3, 2011, at the VA Nursing Home in Oxford. He was a member ofFriendship Baptist Church and a retired engineer. He was a WorldWar II Air Force veteran, where he was involved in the Bataan DeathMarch. He was captured a few days after the bombing of Pearl Harborand was a prisoner of war for three years, seven months and eightdays; he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was amember of The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Browning Funeral Homein Pontotoc with Bro. Johnathan Baker officiating. Burial willfollow in Bay Springs Cemetery in Bay Springs.
Survivors include his two daughters, Linda Houpt (Alan), of Ecru,and Sandra Estes (Warren), of Bay Springs; a son, Johnny Stephens(Rachel), of Mendenhall; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester E. Houston andHattie Daughtry Houston; his wife, Lucy Mae Thornton; and agrandson, Scott Estes.
Visitation was from 5:30 until 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 until10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
