BC at Mt. Olive for 1A showdown

It’s a big battle for second place in Region 4-1A and the homefield advantage in the state football playoffs when the BogueChitto Bobcats invade Mt. Olive to face the Pirates in the finalgame of the regular season Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
In other Lincoln County action, Brookhaven hosts West Jones in a4A playoff game and West Lincoln visits Natchez Cathedral.Enterprise and Loyd Star wrapped up their seasons last Friday.
The first round of the 1A state playoffs begins Friday, Nov.16.
Bogue Chitto (8-1) and Mt. Olive (9-1) come into the final gamewith 8-1 region worksheets. Last week, Coach Gareth Sartin’sBobcats pounded the West Lincoln Bears 53-12 and Mt. Olive shut outSt. Aloysius 47-0.
The Bobcats’ and Pirates’ only region losses were to No. 1 seedPuckett (9-0, 9-0).
“The McNairs (Jason, Julius and Steve Jr,) are very good,” saidSartin. “All three of the McNairs are outstanding athletes with alot of speed . They are tough to bring down in the open. We want totry to get them before they get going.”
Jason McNair has scored 116 career touchdowns, three away fromsurpassing Dicenzo Miller’s record who played for Weir andMississippi State.
“Defensively, the Pirates alternate between a 4-4 and a 5-2defense,” continued Sartin. “They are real aggressive. They like toblitz a lot. They do a good job of getting to the football.”
In the victory over West Lincoln, Bogue Chitto quarterback SethAvants rushed the football 8 times for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns.Donyea Dillon followed with 6 rushes for 87 yards and 2 TDs. Avantscompleted 5 of 5 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.
Scotty Brown and Austin Jones sparked the Bogue Chitto defensewith 10 tackles apiece.
Starting on offense for Bogue Chitto are Avants at quarterback,Cole Laird at fullback, Dillon at tailback, D.J. Turner at splitend, Brian Robinson at flanker and J.W. Fry at tight end. Thelinemen include Robert Lewis at left tackle, Fred Tillman at leftguard, Scotty Brown at center, Josh Wallace at right guard andLenell Bryant at right tackle.
Starting on the Bobcat defense are Fred Tillman at right end,Luther Watts at nose tackle, Bubba Bigner at left tackle, RobertAnderson at strong safety and James Anderson at rover. Thelinebackers are Austin Jones, Cole Laird and Scotty Brown.Cornerbacks are D.J. Turner and Donyea Dillion. Working at safetyis Brian Robinson.
“If we win, we play at home next week,” added Sartin. “If not,it’s a road game.”
In last year’s game, Mt. Olive clipped Bogue Chitto 28-21.
West Lincoln (0-10, 0-9) is still looking forits first win. Coach Brooks Burns Bears face a struggling CathedralGreen Wave team (3-6, 3-6).
The Green Wave had an open date last week.
Cardell Porter led the West Lincoln running game with 17 carriesfor 55 yards in the loss to Bogue Chitto. Jamie Rushing followedwith 31 yards on 11 carries. Jeremy Byrd finished with 103 yards on8 carries.
The Bear defense was led by Kolby Burris with 16 tackles. Making14 stops was Jamie Rushing.
Starting on the offensive line for the Bears are Daniel Smith atcenter; Steven Schepers at left guard; Kolby Burris at right guard;Joseph Howard at left tackle; Josh Howard at right tackle. Alsoalternating is Michael King at tackle. Daniel Frisk played tightend but has been moved to wingback.
Last year, Cathedral dumped West Lincoln 48-8.
