Mr. Walls, 84, died April 8, 2011 at Renea’s. He was born on July8, 1926, to Archie and Leola Crane Walls.
He owned Walls Lumber Company for 36 years. He was a member ofCentral Baptist Church.
“Mr. Lamar,” as most of us called him, loved four things aboutlife: God, his family, his friends and the lumber business.
He was faithful to God and Central Baptist Church for 60years.
As a young man, Mr. Lamar had the vision of owning a business. Soat the age of 18, he started from the bottom at Phillips Lumber Co.with that vision. God then led him to Burgess Lumber Co. where Mr.Burgess recognized Lamar’s desire and made him co-owner. Four yearslater, he owned it! Lamar Walls was a true entrepreneur.
Although Lamar worked long hours, he found time to fall in love. His first love, his only love, was Reba Faye Hurley. They decidedto spend their lives together, so Lamar sold a car for $300 so theycould have a honeymoon! Then came two children, Theresia andShirley. Lamar and Reba were married 62 years when she was calledto Heaven.
One of his greatest attributes was selflessness. He was open everymorning at 6:30 a.m. for the convenience of his customers. And ifthere were times those customers could not pay, he would help allhe could, because Lamar knew hard times.
How good is God that Mr. Lamar Walls passed away at 6:28 a.m. …just in time to open that lumber store in Heaven.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Reba Faye Walls;his sisters, Bessie Castilaw and Ruth Williams; and his brother,W.A. Walls.
Survivors are his daughters, Theresia Walls and Shirley Walls, bothof Brookhaven; his sister, Annabel Roberts; his grandchildren,Felicity Brister and husband, Sam, of Brookhaven, and James HurleyHoggatt, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and his great-grandson, KeaganBrister.
