Funeral services for Norman A. Holmes, of Jayess, were 1p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, withburial in Sartinville Cemetery.

 

    Mr. Holmes, 85, died Nov. 7, 2011, at his home. He was born onSept. 5, 1926, to Bufford R. and LuSettie Reid Holmes.

    He was a member of the Monticello Methodist Protestant Church. Hewas also a Master Mason in the Concordia Lodge, Vidalia, La.,andmember of the Lions Club, Exchange Club and the local VFW Lodge.Mr. Holmes loved his country and his flag! Serving in the ArmyInfantry during World War II, he was engaged in a major battle inOkinawa. His company helped to liberate Seoul, Korea from theJapanese, proudly raising the American flag!

    Mr. Norman moved back to Jayess after retiring from the UnitedStates Postal Service as Post Master for 25 years. Also, he was themanaging broker of Holmes Realty in Vidalia, La. Upon returning toJayess, he was a cattle farmer.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Jesse R. Wilson;brothers, Oscar Ford Holmes and Wesley Ray Holmes; and sister,Arlene Holmes Boyd.

    Survivors are his wife, Doris C. Holmes, of Jayess; daughter,Frances Slay, of Natchez; stepdaughters, Sheri Sistrunk, of Jayess,and Sandra Sistrunk, of Starkville; sisters, Nina Holmes Renfroeand Charlene Holmes Graham, of Jayess; two grandchildren, SherylMayer, of Opelousas, La., and Ryan Wilson, of Gloster, La.; andnumerous nieces and nephews.

    Pallbearers were Wyman Dalton, Darrin Ham, David Holmes, RonnieHolmes, Billy Murry and Darrin Powell.

    The Rev. LaDon Dawson and The Rev. Kenneth Rockco officiated.

    Music was done by Donna Jones and singers, Brandy Beard, MarilynPowell and Missy Robinson.
