The Brookhaven School District is sponsoring its annual SummerFood Service Program from May 30 to June 30.
Anyone 18 years of age and younger can eat free of charge from11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Mamie Martin Elementary and Fannie MullinsSchool. Officials believe the program provides an importantcommunity service to area children and youth.
“Some children may not get a lunch if we didn’t provide it,”said Tonya McSweyn, food services director for the BrookhavenSchools. “We do it just to make sure that all the kids arefed.”
Over 400 meals are provided every day with approximately 200children showing up at each site, McSweyn said. Lunches are givenon a first come, first serve basis.
“We don’t ever run out of food,” McSweyn said. “These are thesame kids we feed during the school year so we pretty well knowwhat they like.”
