LSU-Eunice pitchers hand Co-Lin 2 shutouts

EUNICE, La. — The Co-Lin baseball absorbed a pair of Tuesdayshutouts at the hands of the LSU-Eunice Tigers. The Wolves lost theopener 2-0 and the nightcap 5-0, limited to a total of 7 hits inthe doubleheader.
“We must play better defense and we have to hit the ball betterto be successful,” said Co-Lin head coach Keith Case.
Co-Lin fell to 5-5 with the loss and LSU improved to 12-2 on theseason.
The Wolves resume play Saturday at East Mississippi CommunityCollege in Scooba. They play the host Lions at noon and Northeastat 3 p.m.

In a pitching duel, LSU-Eunice right-hander Eric Fontenot gaveup 6, hits walked none and fanned 4. Losing hurler Ryan Belangergave up 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4.
The Tigers scored twice in the fifth inning. Catcher JeremyTriche led off with a single. A sacrifice bunt moved him tosecond., Jacob Watkins followed with an RBI double. Watkins went tothird on an infield error and scored the game’s second run on apassed ball.
Co-Lin first baseman Ben Sandifer had 2 hits. Xavier Qualls,Matthew Schexnayder, Garrett Jones and Patrick Williamssingled.
LSU-Eunice 5, Co-Lin 0
Riley Hollingsworth and Brett Durand combined for a 1-hitter inthe nightcap. Hollingsworth gave up 1 hit in 6 innings, strikingout 8 and walking 2.
Derek Thompson started for Co-Lin and was relieved by JosephLangham the fifth. Thompson gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, struck out 3and walked 1.
The Wolves got a third-inning single from Greg Ketchings.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
“Hollingsworth took it to us,” said Case. “He threw extremelywell.”
